Uncle Tommy claims Flying Amy Classic in thrilling finish

Unheralded runner Uncle Tommy surprised everyone by winning the Flying Amy Classic (520 m) at Albion Park on a Thursday evening, securing his second Group 1 victory.
Despite his odds shifting from +400 to +1200 with the leading greyhound bookmakers, the talented son of Tommy Shelby and trained by Steve Withers showed determination to fend off Lakeview Emily and Sunset Frazier in a thrilling finish, clocking a time of 30.12 seconds.
This win was a big achievement for Withers in Brisbane, who had previously guided champion sprinter Tommy Shelby during the 2021 summer season.
Uncle Tommy’s victory in the Flying Amy race boosted his career record to 15 wins out of 27 races, with his total earnings surpassing $435,000.
Notably, Uncle Tommy has only failed to place once in his 13 starts this year, underscoring his performance and talent.
His triumph also added to sire Tommy Shelby’s collection of Group 1 titles for the year 2024, joining winners Morton, West On Boonie, Stormy Days, and Uncle Tommy himself in the Perth Cup.

During the Group 2 Cyndies Magic competition (600 m), Fahey’s Magic won the moment, beating out NSW visitor One Hot Bandit, who stumbled in the final stretch.
This win brought another $75,000 prize for Fahey’s Magic after his Golden Sands triumph in January.
