The Q Greyhound Track is a state-of-the-art racing complex located in Purga, Queensland, just south of Ipswich. Scheduled to open in April 2025, The Q is set to become the central hub of greyhound racing in Queensland, effectively replacing the existing Albion Park (Brisbane) and Ipswich tracks. This $85 million venue boasts world-class amenities and has been designed with a strong focus on greyhound welfare and racing safety. The Q’s unique name and cutting-edge features are expected to make it synonymous with greyhound racing in Queensland for decades to come.
The Q features three distinct tracks, each catering to various racing formats:
All tracks feature a sand (loam) surface with modern cambers and banking to minimise stress on racing greyhounds. Starting boxes are positioned to reduce interference, including the use of modern drop-on boxes.
Racing at The Q is expected to take place multiple times each week, covering the race dates previously held at Albion Park and Ipswich, with Metro races expected to take place on Thursday and Saturday nights.
The inaugural race meeting is slated for Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Q1 Lakeside track, marking a new era for Queensland greyhound racing.
Placeholder for record holders and fastest times at The Q. Currently no one holds the record as they have not had an official race at the track yet.

The Q was developed after the closure of several greyhound venues in South-East Queensland, such as the Beenleigh track in 2003 and the Gold Coast Parklands track in 2008.
Various proposals for a replacement, including plans at Logan’s Cronulla Park and at Deagon in Brisbane, were discussed over the years but fell through amid funding and planning hurdles.
In 2019, the Queensland Government unveiled plans for a three-track racing hub called the Greater Brisbane Greyhound Centre.
This concept evolved and was officially named “The Q” in 2023 when the project broke ground at the Purga site.
The Q’s creation marks a historic milestone for the sport, consolidating greyhound racing in the region into a single super-venue and bringing together the Brisbane (Albion Park) and Ipswich clubs into one facility.
Industry leaders have hailed The Q as a “once-in-a-lifetime project” that will benefit generations to come. With its state-of-the-art design, The Q stands as a testament to Queensland’s commitment to a world-class racing experience.
