Talking breeding: 2012 Easter Egg winner’s litter to impress

THIS week’s review of litters selected from the NSW Whelping Report for the week ending November 30, 2015 starts with a nice litter of 11 pups by the 2012 Golden Easter Egg winner, Don’t Knocka Him (November 2009 Knocka Norris x Surf Queen).

The Three dogs and eight bitches, registered by Catherine Field breeder, Neville Brown and from the well bred bitch, Princess Mea (April 2010 Spiral Nikita* x Jessica Nimbus) whose dam is by Lethal Weapon x Runaway Tiger (Prince Of Tigers x Shadow Osti).

She is from a litter which included Bart The Weapon, Clubs The Weapon, Cyndi The Weapon, Gail The Weapon and Ricky The Weapon, with their dam having five other named offspring on file, from two litters, whelped in April 2009 by Mogambo and November 2011 by Tuiaki, both producing winners.

Princess Mea raced 26 times for seven wins and eight placings, winning twice over 535m at Richmond (30.79), twice over 520m at Dapto (29.91) where she also won over 600m (34.96), with wins over 520m (30.23) and 630m (36.74) at Nowra.

According to my breeding records, she has two previous litters on file, five dogs and four bitches, whelped in November 2013, by Swift Fancy, then seven dogs and one bitch, whelped in July 2014, by Don’t Knocka Him, so Neville must like the first Don’t Knocka Him litter, to have gone back to him again.

This litter should attract plenty of interest from prospective buyers with future breeding in mind, with eight bitches in the litter, and the strong early winning form of her Swift Fancy litter, which includes Boo, Bully The Weapon, Carla The Weapon, Carol The Weapon, Disturbance, Mighty Mia, Musheen and Rosco The Weapon, who according to my records have all won races.

Kinloch Brae* litter

NEXT we have a litter of seven pups by the successful US bred sire Kinloch Brae* (August 2005 Craigie Mo Town x Greys Free Style) who stands at stud in Ireland, and who added the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg to his Australian CV last week with the win of the Jason Thompson trained, Moreira (x Donna Ricca) in the final.

NSW Whelping Report April 8Elrington breeder, Christopher Kedwell, registered the litter of five dogs and two bitches by Kinloch Brae*, who are from the well bred, prolific producer, Mad Manalishi (September 2007 Collision x Sutro Star) whose dam is by Token Prince x Ready To Rain (Indian Dance x First Contract).

Mad Manalishi is from one of her dam’s eight litters, which included, Adhara Shine, Cinnabar, Exocet, Gogo Sutro, I’m Starring, Lakes Curl, Regal Star, Salvatore and Vagrant, with their dam, Sutro Star, having another 43 named offspring on file, from seven other litters, by Awesome Assassin, Big Daddy Cool, Bombastic Shiraz, Brett Lee, Hallucinate, Just The Best and Where’s Pedro.

On the track, Mad Manalishi only raced twice for two unplaced runs, falling at her second start and not racing again, with retirement having produced four previous litters, two dogs and four bitches, whelped in December 2010, by Bit Chili, five dogs and five bitches, whelped in January 2013, by El Grand Senor, three dogs and one bitch, whelped in January 2014, by Quicklee Tommy and six dogs and two bitches, whelped in March 2015, by El Grand Senor.

She is already a well proven producer, with her second litter, the first of two by El Grand Senor, producing Aldersea, Atrax Robustus, Karma Connie, Katherine Sky, Kyanos, Maximum Entropy, Miss Mensch and Mister Renda, who have won more than 60 races between them to date.

Hayley’s Looney litter

Gunning breeder, Hayley Moffitt has a litter of seven pups in the list this week that should create plenty of interest amongst prospective buyers with future breeding in mind.

The one dog and six bitches are by Kiowa Mon Manny* (September 2002 Flying Penske* x Flying Monika K) from the well bred, very handy staying bitch, Cawbourne Looney (February 2011 Trewly Special x Book Of Days) whose dam is by Spiral Nikita* x Calm Jezebel (No Intent x Bright Blitz).

Cawbourne Looney, a finalist in the 2013 Group 3 Chairmans Cup and 2014 group 2 Wentworth Gold Cup, is from a handy litter of six named, which included, Cawbourne Bree, Double Bubble, Miss Grobur, Riley Peterson and Ritza Special, with their dam, Book Of Days, also producing winners from both of her other litters, October 2012 by College Causeway* and March 2014 by Spring Gun.

On the track she raced 52 times for 14 wins and 14 placings, winning eight races over 720m at Wentworth Park (41.92), two over 659m at Bulli (37.83, and two over 530m at Canberra (37.83) where she also won over 600m (35.01) and 440m (25.79).

According to my breeding records, she has one previous litter on file, seven dogs and three bitches, whelped in August 2014, by Collision, who will be well worth keeping a look out for when they hit the tracks, which should be very soon.

A Magic litter

NSW Metro SiresOUR final litter for review from this week’s NSW Whelping Report is one of six pups by current leading NSW Metropolitan sire, Magic Sprite (March 2008 Brett Lee x Glamorous).

Mount Hutton breeder, Kevin Gordon bred the litter of three dogs and three bitches, who are from the beautifully bred bitch, Lochinvar Camila (May 2012 Collision x Multicam Girl) whose dam is by Bombastic Shiraz x Tureena Lee (Brett Lee x Tureena Bay) which gives the litter a double cross to the great Austrlian sire, Brett Lee.

Lochinvar Camila is from a 100% winning litter of six named which included Lochinvar Akira, Lochinvar Impact, Mrs. Duncan, Rocket Collision and Sassy Darah, with their dam, Multicam Girl, also producing winners from her four other litters on file, by Big Daddy Cool, Magic Sprite, Mantra Lad and Vee Man Vane.

Their dam’s mating to Magic Sprite produced a handy litter which included Lady Kereb, Lochinvar Amour, Merry Cam, Mr. Paranoia, Multicam Magic and Multicam Ranger, so the bloodline mix is well proven.

Lochinvar Camila was lightly raced, with just 19 starts, which resulted in three wins and nine placings, with wins over 515m at The Gardens (29.99), where she also won over 600m (35.13) and also won over 600m at Gosford (35.16) and worth noting she was placed over 520m at Wentworth Park.

She has one previous litter on file, three dogs and two bitches, whelped in June 2014, by Knocka Norris, with Reservoir Risk having already raced and won two of his first three starts on my records, at the time of writing.

Drums are beating, Fernando

TURNING our attention to the Victorian Litter Registrations list for the week ending March 8, we start our reviews with three litters by recently retired, Group 1 champion, Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen) who has just turned three years of age.

Berwick breeder, Dragan Dodic, has the first of the three litters, which is three dogs and seven bitches from the very well bred bitch, Boston Chanel (November 2010 Bombastic Shiraz x Blueray Girl) whose dam is by Token Prince x Los Caballos (Brett Lee x Elusive Rebel).

She is from a litter which included, Blue Shiraz, Boston Babe, Boston Hustler, Tantrum and Wine Not, with their dam also producing winners from her two other litters, whelped in June 2012 by Lonesome Cry* and October 2013 by Surf Lorian.

Boston Chanel did most of her racing in New Zealand, after two starts at Sandown for a fifth and a third, she was transferred to New Zealand where she raced 27 times for seven wins and 10 placings, winning three times over 520m at Wanganui (30.11) where she also won twice over 645m (37.83) and also won twice over 457m at Palmerston North (29.80).

Race A Chaser syndications

She has one previous litter on file, six dogs and three bitches, whelped in December 2014, by Jarvis Bale, bred by Horsley Park breeder, Sandro Bechini.

One of Fernando Bale’s handlers, George Dailly, from Dailly Greyhound Farm has the second litter, which is two dogs and three bitches from the Wheeler bred bitch, Glenda Bale (October 2009 Collision x Lexy Bale) whose dam is by Brett Lee x Sharmon Bale (Braddy* x Burgundy Bale).

Glenda Bale is from a litter which included Bestie Bale, Driton Bale, Duratec Bale, Eira Bale and Fizzle Bale, with their dam also producing winners from both of her other litters, by Buttsie Bale and Droopys Maldini*.

Her wins included the 2014 Group 1 National Futurity, Group 2 Richmond Oaks, and 2015 Dapto Oaks, and she was a finalist in the 2015 Group 1 Megastar, Group 3 Canberra Cup and Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Stake.

Dragan’s second litter

Victorian Litter Registrations April 8BERWICK Breeder, Dragan Dodic, also has a litter of five dogs and three bitches on the list this week, by Fernando Bale’s US/Irish bred sire Kelsos Fusileer (July 2003 Gable Dodge (US) x Lassinagh Silky (IE)), from the beautifully bred bitch, Giddy’s Star (May 2011 Where’s Pedro x Giddigan) whose dam is by Puzzle Prize x Chersam Honcho (Head Honcho x Cartland).

Giddy’s Star is from a litter which included, Coolan, Coolan Blue, Coolan Queen, Superior Ashlee, Superior Hailey and Wendy, with their dam, Giddigan, also producing winners from her four other litters, by Collision, Dyna Lachlan, Meticulous and Pure Octane.

On the track, Giddy’s Star raced 52 times for 12 wins and 16 placings, winning six races over 515m at Sandown (29.61), breaking the 30 second barrier four times, which not many bitches did at that time, and three times over 520m at Cranbourne (30.21), with single wins over 525m at The Meadows (30.25), 450m at Ballarat (25.67) and 460m at Warragul (25.97).

She has three dogs and three bitches on file from one previous litter, whelped in October 2014 by National Sprint Championship winner Fabregas, so Dragan certainly has some beautifully bred pups in his kennels at the moment.

Going Great Gunns

POPULAR Mawson Lakes breeder and prominent greyhound racing sponsor, Raymond Borda, has a nice litter of 10 pups on the list this week by Knocka Norris (February 2006 Elite State x Oriental Angel).

The three dogs and seven bitches are from the very well bred bitch, Great Gunns (September 2009 Where’s Pedro x Cheeky Sprite) whose dam is by Bright Ebony x Cheeky Villian (Hail The Champ x Dusty Babe), and worth recalling the breeding of Hail The Champ (Ginger x Alyssa Belle) whose dam is by Acacia Park x Alyssa Gal.

Great Gunns is from a litter of three named, which included Golden Sprite and Price Increase, with their dam also producing winners from her three other litters, whelped in December 2005 by Token Prince (which included Queen Lauryn), March 2007 by Surf Lorian (which included Santino Marella) and September 2008 by Pure Octane (which included Queen Of Cyprus).

On the track, Great Gunns was lightly raced with just 19 starts which resulted in four wins and nine placings, with two wins over 515m at Sandown (29.61) and single wins over 460m at Geelong (26.03) and 520m at Ipswich (30.76).

She has proven herself to be a very good producer with winners from her first two litters, whelped in October 2012, by Kinloch Brae* with five named all winning, Bremer, Glock, Gunloch, Sig Saeur and Smith And Weston, and eight winners from nine named in her second litter, whelped in July 2013, by Collision, which produced Aston Kara, Aston Simone, Aston Skeet, Aston Taj, Aston Ugo, Aston Willow, Captain Tuttle and Chekky Danae.

She also has a litter of two dogs and six bitches on file, whelped in September 2014, by National Sprint Championship winner Fabregas which should provide her with even more success, and she could even end up emulating the feats of her top producing dam.

Eight for the Road

OUR final litter for review this week, from the Victorian list is one of eight pups by the under-rated sire, Oaks Road (November 2008 Spiral Nikita* x Leprechaun Pace) who I believe should have had a lot more bitches than he has.

Macarthur breeder, Robert Jehu, has his litter of six dogs and two bitches, who are from the beautifully bred, lightly raced bitch, Eumerella Mist (March 2012 El Grand Senor x Ocean Magic) whose dam is by Bombastic Shiraz x Killarney Magic (Hotshot x Magic Gairn).

Eumerella Mist is from a litter of three named which included, Eumeralla View and Grand Ocean, with their dam’s five other named offspring on file, from her February 2013 litter by Cosmic Chief, which produced, Eumeralla Flash, Eumeralla Magic, Eumeralla Rex, Lil Arthur (10 plus wins) and Memphis Magic.

Lightly raced, Eumerella Mist raced only 11 times for two wins and three placings, winning twice over 390m at Ballarat (22.11) with two placings, and two placings over 400m at Geelong.

NSW Metropolitan Sires list

OUTSTANDING sire Magic Sprite (March 2008 Brett Lee x Glamorous) increased his lead on the NSW Metropolitan Sires list, which covers all races run at Wentworth Park, during March when his offspring won 11 races.

He now leads with 33 wins (from 27 individual winners), and has a handy 12 win break over Spring Gun who has 21 wins, Fabregas 15 wins, then Where’s Pedro and Collision, both with 13 wins each completing the top five.

Lochinvar Marlow, who along with Collision, had six March winners, is just one win outside the top five, with Irish based sire Kinloch Brae* just two wins behind in seventh spot, and both looking likely top five contenders as the year progresses.

Just outside the top 20 at the end of March both with four wins each but less placings, are Big Daddy Cool and Miagi, followed by a group all with three wins each, Head Bound*, Surf Lorian, Bombastic Shiraz, Collide, Fear Zafonic*, Go Wild Teddy, Mogambo and Dyna Lachlan.

Winners for the top three March sires at Wentworth Park, and their dam, were as follows:

Magic Sprite (March 2008 Brett Lee x Glamorous) had eleven individual winners, Abmilak (x Kalimna), Alfie Magic (x Choc Chip), Both Sides Now (x Cristalle), Defaulter (x Florinda Belle), Dokmai (x Hidden Assets), Lika Storm (x High Maintenance), New Direction (x Bit Isolated), Slick Simzy (x Run Rampant), Stoker Up (x Magic Maggie) Tap Out Scarlet (x Indigo Gem) and Vid Vici (x Sheikha).

Collision (August 2001 Awesome Assassin x Rumble Spirit) had six wins, from five individual winners, Benteke (x Pear Napoleon) won twice, with single winners, Domino Petacchi (x Domino Vitali), Nangar Flash (x Flash Fancy), Spiders Brother (x Rockarena) and Star Torana (x Redskin).

Lochinvar Marlow (July 2007 Bombastic Shiraz x Sensation Lee) also had six wins from five individual winners, with Tilly’s Boy (x Cosmic Essence) winning twice, with single winners, Bearville Azza (x Von’s Angel), Jet Ready (x Splendour), Old Spice (x Takeover Teddy) and Seven Jacks (x Lor Lor Retta).

Next week we will have the full Victorian Metropolitan Sires list for the three months to the end of March, but I can tell you briefly, the top five on the list are Barcia Bale, 64 wins, Cosmic Rumble 46 wins, Magic Sprite 37 wins, Kinloch Brae* 35 wins, and Fabregas jumped five places to fifth with 32 wins, after his offspring won 20 races for the month, the same as list leader Barcia Bale.

Next week we will also have the AGRA breeding ratings for the three months to the end of March for both Sires and Dam, with both lists compiled on a points score basis in Group races only.

Bred to win

LITTLE SHORT (March 2014 Jarvis Bale x Alana Miss) is the first of our two dogs to watch this week after placings at his first two starts, a first up third over 525m at The Meadows (MEP) on March 23, beaten 13 lengths in the race won by Spring Clarkie, after coming from box five recording 31.15, then an eyecatching second from box 1 at The Meadows (MEP) on March 30, beaten 3.36 lengths by Brazen Fool, running 30.82, and he will improve on that before too long for Lara owner/trainer J. Collins.

QUEENSLAND bred bitch, Lilly Of Laguna (January 2014 Collision x Dazzling Pace) caught the eye with a first up fourth over 525m at The Meadows (MEP) on March 30, from box four, beaten six lengths in the race won by Brazen Fool, who ran 30.58, and with a better draw and a bit of luck won’t take long to find the winner’s list.
