Canberra Greyhounds Celebrate Winners All Around

After a string of weeks where a number of trainers have managed to pick up two or more wins in a meeting, Sunday evening was a night of sharing the winning joy around as 10 different trainers claimed honors at Canberra.

New commer to Canberra opened the meeting and his account with victory to Butters in 5th grade 440m event.

After giving up an early lead to , Butters claimed the lead in the straight to win in 25.85 over Berridale Belle and Jacob’s Banquet.

First starter I’m The Cure taking the second for Peter Warner and his band of followers, the black bitch the first qualifier through to next week’s ACTTAB final, What’s The Craic and Morgo’s Princess taking out the minor placings and also claiming their final spots.

Heat two of the ACTTAB maiden going to Garland Tiger, for Chris Hensler in 25.80, Night Eater charging home to take second, Quiet Success in third.

In a closely fought affair it was Geoff Stafford’s new acquisition, to get the chocolates in the mixed grade sprint.

As contections of all combatants raced to the fence to urge on their runner, a battle between , and took place in the straight with the Wisky Assassin x Daytona Magic dog prevailing on the outside, half a length from High Fees, Teddy Two Bucks in third.

After suffering an injury in the last meeting of 2008, was a tremendous effort to return to the track and after lobbing infront and avoiding trouble at the first turn it was a pleasant win for the Ian McFarlane trained greyhound, who clocked best of the day 18.05.

The feature event of the evening, Kilcoyne Kennels Final over 440 proved once again that leading greyhounds are a wonderful asset as Miami Lock was able to dart clear of the field at the first section to claim the final from strong finishing Bradman’s Willow and .

With Lockwood Floats coming on board as the 2009 sponsor of Canberra’s feature staying race in July it was perfect timing for a 600 event to eventuate with some handy runners.

Short priced favourite able to step well enough and lead the full trip in a solid 34.88 run over Whip It Up and Methane.

Wannabe First also leading start to finish in the eighth, in 30.81, just holding out Pure Unleaded who returned to racing after five months off, in third.

Bomba Banquet continued his fantastic form taking out the penultimate over Elite Stardom and Jada Kain in 18.07.

Another lead all the way effort claiming the final event, Out Of Uniform for Jason Keller winning in fine style 25.83 and Markus Park taking out the minors.
