The highlight of todays greyhound racing will be the Queensland debut of Knocka Knows All, and the heats of the Great Western Derby at Ballarat over 450m for greyhounds born on or after 1st August 2008. Some very handy greyhounds are contesting the heats, not least of which Perfect Fancy who amazingly gets in to a restricted race after finishing second in the Adelaide Cup, third in the Group 1 Silver Chief and third in the Group 1 Thousand.

Angle Park Greyhounds – Race 9 – No. 9 (Box 1) – Source Code – 2:27pm SA time

Don’t be put off by the price of the lack of recent form. This Shaun Matcott greyhound has only won 4 of her 33 careers starts but 3 of them have been from box 1 and the other was from box 2. In a race that is devoid of a lot of early pace this lucky reserve gets in to box 1 and has to be rated a massive chance. It’s either all on or all off at the start here as we ae looking for a an all the way win for her to be a chance, but Source Code is currently rated a $10.00 chance but you might gets set a much better than that.

The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 12 – Box 1 – Dino Ferrari – 3:24pm Vic time

Don’t get excited about getting a big price about this one. Dino Ferrari was a good 30.13 winner here last week in 30.13 when the best of the day was only 30.12. That time the 30kg greyhound sued box 2 to advantage and led quickly to clear out for a 9.5 length win. Previous good for at Warrnambool has seen a win and 3 placings from 4 starts, finishing second in the final behind Autoamerican. Boxed beautifully again in the red box with moderate beginners outside him Dino Ferrari will wear the red rug with pride for an another victory. Doesn’t matter what the price is, this dog won’t lose.

Shepparton Greyhounds – Race 7 – Box 7 – Nikita Sunrise – 5:32pm Vic time

Nikita Sunrise has a pretty modest racing record having won just 3 of 28 starts but 2 of those victories have been here at Shepparton and 2 careers win have been from box 8. With the scratching in this race of Mister Austin from box 8, the reserve goes in to the box, but is desperately slow early, so Nikita Sunrise might as well be boxed out there as she’ll have no pressure from her outside. A last start winner here from box 1 when leading all the way in 6.60, 25.61, anything close to that will win this and win it easily.

Albion Park Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 4 – Knocka Knows All – 5:32pm Qld time

The only race that is not a worthless 300m race on the program is the 4/5th grade over 520m. And it looks a match race in three between the Tom Tzouvelis trained pair of Kikem Tricky and Marshall Starr, and the Reg Kay trained Knocka Knows All. Although on debut here we have to be on Knocka Knows All despite the awkward draw. The young greyhound had Newcastle in raptures after a 29.45 miaden win there in October 2010, and it prompted Kay to state that he was “the fastest chaser he has trained at the same age“. That’ll do us.

Ballarat Greyhounds – Race 2 – Box 8 – Perfect Fancy – 7:18pm Vic time

Big time group 1 performer who gets in to this race very cheaply. Draws amazingly well out in box 8 just to add to the chances in this. Has finished in the placings in all of the past 3 group 1 races and is the winner of $83,925 from 25 starts producing 13 wins and 11 placings. This definitely won’t start big odds and the 35kg blue dog might have to work a little early, but he will be way too strong. Anyone who doubts that should watch his run behind last start in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup final. For many of these greyhounds starting against Perfect Fancy will be the closest they get to a group 1 final.

Ballarat Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 3 – Lektra Express – 9:18pm Vic time

In the all the press that gushed after El Grand Senors win, Lektra Express was the forgotten greyhound. The son of and Miss Gabby wasn’t racing in the cup heats and final but what he managed was more impressive the El Grand Senor. In the cup heats El Grand Senor broke the Warragul 460m , and on the same night Lektra Express cam out and also smashed a Warragul record, the 400m track record contesting a 400m heat. One week later El Grand Senor came out and untouched won the Cup, but couldn’t break his own record on a slower track. Lektra Express though didn’t have the same trouble winning the final and breaking his own track record by 1/100th of a second. This young greyhound has won 6 of 15 starts but is much much better than that. He is potential superstar an in other more careful hands his record would read much better. Takes on the Warragul Cup runner up here and will announce himself in a big way tonight at odds.

Dapto Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 8 – Weyman – 8:46pm NSW time

Another low grade greyhound meeting with just 2 520m races and 1 600m race on the 10 race card. Do yourself a favour and put the pen through the 297m events, you’ll be happier tomorrow if you do. In race 6 Weyman has drawn out wide but it wouldn’t matter, he has shown a ton of early pace winning his his past 2 starts at Richmond over the 400m from boxes 7 an 4 and leading practically all the way on both occasions in good time. He has had 4 career starts for 3 wins and although on debut over the 520m he should be a mile in front turning for home. A class above these but the price will reflect that too.

Richmond Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 3 – McQueen – 9:34pm NSW time

Lightly raced McQueen gets in to this 5th grade nicely here, having had all 3 starts her at Richmond over the 535m and scoring a maiden win in 5.45, 3083 and a maiden final win in 31.12. had to overcome boxes 6 and 7 on those occasions and gets a better box here. The trained greyhound is is a young up and comer who was never out of trouble last start, finishing fourth back in mid December. The freshen up is bound to be a positive and if he leads, he wins, but don’t be surprised if he runs down what ever leads him either. Nice dog with a good future.

Ipswich Greyhounds – Race 9 – Box 2 – Gnarley Boy – 8:55pm Qld time

Hard to go past Gnarley Boy here who racks up start number 78 here tonight. The winner of 26 of those with a further 30 placings has been a model of consistency and resumes here after a short let up. Was very impressive in the Ipswich Cup series back in November, finishing second in the final to the flying Octane Show before finishing in the placings at 2 of last 3 starts at Albion Park, all behind My Amigo. Small field suits and off the freshen up should have the dash back in his legs. Look for him to explode from the boxes and lead convincingly within 50m.

Cannington Greyhounds – Race 3 – Box 1 – I’m Excited – 7:14pm WA time

I’m Excited is no youngster, having had 68 starts for 8 wins and 12 placings and hasn’t won since July 2010, but despite that he has been placed 3 of his last 4 starts. Last start he ran 30.90 finishing third behind Short Haul on Australia Day and in this weaker race, that’ll be good enough to take this out. This is his first box 1 draw in some time and importantly he has won 1 and finished second and 2 of his 3 starts from box 1 here at Cannington. The scratching of No.2 Lil’Kel only helps his chances here tonight with the reserve gaining the start. Doubt too many will get excited in this so we might just get a bit of a price about I’m Excited tonight.
