Cannington betting preview & top greyhound bets | Saturday, 5/8/23

is set to host a 11 race program on Saturday night from 7:03PM local time. The meeting is headlined by a fifth-grade final (race eleven) set to be run over the 600m featuring the likes of Flashing Kuna and Mack. There’s also two free-for-all contests over the 520m and 715m respectively where returns to WA after flying the flag interstate.

Best Bet: Mustang Timmy (Race 3)

Former cult hero, Tommy Shellby is starting to make some noise at stud and Mustang Timmy is another example. The one-year-old showed his quality in a qualifying trial when winning by upwards of 25 lengths in 29.99 over the 520m at Cannington. He followed this up with a devastating debut win over course and trip by six lengths in 30.11. His only blemish was last start when finishing fourth. He was unable to find the front on this occasion and was forced wide on the first turn which makes this effort forgivable. He draws inside for the first time in his career and has a good map with Vander Harley outside him who is back from successive runs at 600m and won’t have the speed to pressure him.

Next Best: Acing Kuna (Race 2)

Six dogs are engaged in this middle distance novice contest and it’s Acing Kuna who appears hardest to beat. The one-year-old has recently stepped up to the 600m where she has placed in all four runs with a personal best of 34.89. She brings the right formline to Saturday’s race having run third to the airborne last start. West On Nugget was great on his 600m debut last week; however, did get all favours. There’s enough early pressure in this race from Disco Trixie and Penny Magic who can unnerve the favourite and the swooper, Acing Kuna.

Next Best: Sher Zany (Race 8)

Sher Zany has raced with plenty of merit since arriving in Western Australia and appears likely to record her second win in the state. The Ex-Victorian has had four starts recording one win over this track and trip in 42.32. Since then, she has stepped back to the 520m where she was unlucky in the early stages. She ran home when it was all over suggesting a return to the staying trip would aid her chances. She has shown a tendency to use the track slightly on all corners; however, should have the speed to kick up and lead this field up. From there, it’s unlikely any of her rivals have the ability to run her down.
