The Meadows greyhound preview & top racing tips | Saturday, 8/7/23

The Meadows are set to host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:37PM local time. The meeting is jam packed with graded races over all distances including a 730m race featuring former group one winner, Untapped. will be the other draw card on the night as she returns from a failed campaign and draws well to .

BEST BET: Kelsey Bale (Race 8)

Kelsey Bale appears to be the main drawcard on Saturday and is likely to trounce her rivals in the eighth event. The talented daughter of Feral Franky has hit her straps in 2023 winning three country cups at level (Ballarat, Geelong, ) as well as placing twice in company. She is returning from a failed Brisbane Cup campaign where she skyrocketed into one of the dogs to beat after a devastating win on the 15th of June. Jumping poorly from box eight, the three-year-old found herself last going past the post the first time. She somehow weaved a passage down the back and shot out of a cannon late to score, running away in a scintillating 29.66. This win led to her starting a heavily supported favourite in a heat of the Brisbane Cup where she regressed and ran last. Saturday's race is just what the doctor ordered as she draws box one at a track and trip she has had great success at. She has Scofflaw outside her who is stepping back from the 600m which is perfect as he won't have the speed to match her. Expect her to kick up, hold the rails and prove hard to hold out at the business end.

NEXT BEST: Untapped (Race 4)

Untapped returns from Brisbane after a failed campaign and gets a relieving drop in grade. The daughter of has endured a sparkling career amounting to seven group one finals resulting in one win and three placings. Upon looking through her form, this is the first time she faces a “graded” race (4-5th) in almost ten months which is remarkable. Over her past fourteen starts she has raced in either heats, group or special event races. On Saturday night, she will enjoy box four as she's won four and placed three times from twelve starts. The small field suits and she's versatile enough to lead or sit off the speed and win. Expect the rising four-year-old to put on another fantastic display.

BEST VALUE: Mepunga Luna (Race 1)

Open race to kick off proceedings with Jeffrey Britton appearing to hold the key. Happy to side with the least favoured runner of his pair in Mepunga Luna. The daughter of started her career in great fashion, leading all of the way over track and trip to win by upwards of three lengths in 30.54. Since then, she was sent around a drifting favourite in the maiden final where she finished down the track. In her most recent start, she was sent to Geelong and ran fairly on the one turn circuit. Returning to The Meadows will suit her on Saturday as well as a slightly lower draw. She has shown that she wants to duck hard left to find the rails and with no speed expected from Sir Melville or Caribou Bale drawn inside her she can do so without interference. From there, it will be a with the kennel mate, Judged, drawn in the red and considering there's almost three times price difference between the pair, she has to be the value runner of the race and night.
