The Meadows racing preview & top greyhound tips | Saturday 22/7/23
The Meadows are set to host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:37PM local time. The meeting is headlined by the group one Maturity final where over $150,000 will be spread across the first three over the line. Also, there's a cracking edition of the group 3 Fireball final over the 730m where star stayers Untapped, Ariarne Bale and Jarick Bale will fight out the finish.
Best Bet: Shima Shadow (Race 11)
Shima Shadow will be looking to send home leading Victorian trainer Thomas Dailly on a winning note. The two-year-old has mixed his form over the past month; however, his last two runs have been somewhat near his best. Two back he sizzled around the 460m at Geelong beating Make No Promise in best of night time 25.42. Last start he lined up in a heat of the group one maturity where Zara Marnie was the fastest qualifier in 29.75. He drew box eight and picked his way through the field to finish third in 30.11. He maps well in Saturday's race with no speed expected inside him from Cash It In and Scorching Boy outside him will hold his line. Idolize will be fresh first up for eight months and should provide the perfect cart into the race for Shima Shadow to run over the top late.

Thomas Dailly has a strong hand in the first event and it's Raven Nighthawk who appears well over the odds. The two-year-old has been off the scene for five weeks; however, is sure to be tuned up for a first up crush. Prior to the break, the son of Barcia Bale had raced consistently over course and trip, placing in all five efforts with a personal best of 30.30. He is drawn superbly in box two on Saturday night and has a good map to boot. Cabao Dewberry to his inside begins best from wide boxes while Tinker Ken on his outside missed the kick poorly last time. This will give Raven Nighthawk the time and space early to find the arm. The favourite Awesome Avenger has drawn awkwardly in box five with Silent Bullet outside who looks to crash left which makes Awesome Avenger vulnerable.

Best Value: Crackerjack King (Race 9)
The ninth race has been decimated by the scratching of Canya Exceed which has left it a wide open affair. With this, Crackerjack King appears the best value runner of the program. The son of Bernado suffered a terrible fall over track and trip in May which sidelined him for a month. He has had four runs back which began with a run over track and trip where he was smashed to the rear of the pack. He was able to pick up a much needed victory earlier this week at Geelong over the 460m when running best of night time of 25.82 which will do his confidence the world of good. Saturday's race has a stack of 600m dogs returning to the 500m which he can take advantage of. He will appreciate the outside box vacant and can lead this race at his best.
