The Meadows greyhound preview, best bets & odds | Saturday, 1/7/23

The Meadows are set to host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:38PM local time. The meeting is headlined by two cracking finals including the “ To The Meadows Final” (race one) and a fifth-grade final (race four). The free-for-all is a ripper with to face off against with the pair in sparkling form of late.

BEST BET: Shadow Rift (Race 3)

The Anthony kennel is airborne of late and he will be hopeful he can bring home another winner in the third event with Shadow Riot. The two-year-old chaser is regally bred out of x Mystic Riot who was the inaugural winner of the Million Dollar Chase. Her son Shadow Riot is certainly nowhere near her level; however, he is very sharp on his night. He has been racing in good order, scoring in two of his past five at Geelong and respectively. His last two efforts at Bendigo have been sub par which has called for a change of track and he looks very well suited to The Meadows. He has only had two starts here for a win and a placing. His win came from box eight when spearing across, finding the front and going away to score in 30.24. This win came at start number four and he has been able to find a few lengths since going 30.03 in his next effort. He has a terrific record from wide draws having had seven starts from this box for four wins and two placings. Desired Path outside him shouldn't challenge early which will allow him the room to stay wide and work across. Given he gets across he will be hard to hold out.

NEXT BEST: Canya Hustle (Race 6)

Canya Hustle is drawn to perfection to score his fifth consecutive win on Saturday night. The son of Barcia Bale is bred on very good lines with his mother, producing group one winner, Bandit Ned. The two-year-old has taken immediately to two turn track racing having won all five of his races at either or The Meadows. He has a tremendous record at The Meadows recording four wins from his five starts with a personal best of 30.27. Canya Hustle made a great first appearance at Sandown last start winning in 29.69. After beginning fairly from a wide box he was able to push up and eye ball the race leader. Down the back he went into overdrive and was able to fend off rivals late in the piece. He could not have asked for a better draw with two wide runners outside him and the current favourite being a slow beginner who looks set to cop interference. Canya Hustle will zoom across to the rails, kick up and given he leads he should be able to explode down the back and put this race to bed.

BEST Value: Call Me Marley (Race 10)

Call Me Marley will be stepping out on Saturday night aiming to keep her unbeaten record from box eight intact. The daughter of Konomi has been racing well of late without breaking through for a much deserved victory. In her past five starts she has only managed one placing when running second to Vaucluse Bale over track and trip in 30.15. Her most recent win was at the end of March 2023 when scoring over track and trip in a best of night 30.07. The week prior she recorded a sharp 29.83 run out of box seven which was also best of the night. She has a remarkable record from the pink box having won all her five starts. The map in this race appears good for her as Soda Apache and Kanji Zone inside won't offer too much pressure and will look to find the rails. The current favourite Mepunga Sunrise was breathtaking last start at ; however, she has to back that up now at a new track and with the added travel it makes it very difficult for a young dog. The middle draw does her no favours as she is a slow beginner and given Call Me Marley can let rip down the centre of the track she should be able to gain an advantage on Mepunga Sunrise.
