The Meadows betting preview, best bets & quaddie | Saturday, 24/6/23
The Meadows are set to host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:38PM local time. The meeting is headlined by the Maiden 525 Final (race one) where Mepunga Luna dominates betting. There’s a plethora of graded races across the card with race eight the best showcasing Shima Shadow, Baby Jaycee and Big Energy.
BEST BET: Tan And Black (Race 12)
Patience is a virtue and punters will be relaying that with the best bet in the lucky last. Brendan Pursell has his two-year-old charge, Tan And Black firing on all cylinders and he will prove almighty hard to hold out here. He was an emphatic winner at Geelong over the 460m at the end of May coming from well off the speed to score in 26.43. His Meadows statistics are brilliant having had eight starts for three wins and three placings. One of those placings was at start number three when running second to the talented Al’s Entity at Group three level. Both his efforts over this track and trip in June have been enormous, winning two back and being an absolute moral beat last week. The son of My Redeemer has already tasted success from box two having had four starts for two wins and expect him to add to this with any luck whatsoever.

NEXT BEST: Pickled Piper (Race 5)
One of two 600m races on the program with a common theme across the field. Only Pickled Piper and Waypoint Whisky have tasted success in their past ten starts which leaves the question on the rest of this field’s desire to win. Not only has Pickled Piper won in her past ten starts, she has won three of her past six as well as running second in a further two races. The daughter of Dundee Osprey is racing in a rich vein of form and has started to capitalise on the scoresheet since stepping beyond 500m. She steps back to the 600m from the 730m at this track when running a courageous second to Ryebuck Tears. The two-year-old has had two attempts from the stripes recording a win and a placing. Wrangler Jane, drawn inside, has shown no box speed since returning from a five month spell which should ensure Pickled Piper crosses and finds the rails. From there, she has shown the versatility to either lead or sit off the pace and win.

BEST VALUE: Weblec Jewel (Race 1)
Incredibly open feature race to kick off the night. Both team Britton and team Dailly seem to have a stranglehold on this affair with five of the eight starters; however, it’s the Angela Langton trained Weblec Jewel who appears the best value play. The one-year-old had little luck on debut at Warragul over the 400m when finishing sixth beaten three lengths. After a fair getaway, she found herself in a ruck of runners which ultimately didn’t allow her to stretch out. Turning for home she veered out noticeably which cost her a few lengths. She was only ten days between runs when having her second start over the 525m at The Meadows when winning by three lengths in 30.70. Stepping quickly from box eight, the daughter of Kinloch Brae speared across to find the lead and made every post a winner. Expect plenty of improvement out of this run and she maps to lead this race. The short priced favourite Mepunga Luna raced erratically when winning on debut and given she veers hard left again she will be in a world of pain from box eight .
