Final Position: 7th (18 points)

‘When it counts' was the motto of Future Fund's travels as he cemented a spot in the Country Challenge final with two late final wins.

Things looked fairly grim for John Lawson's northern region chaser in mid May with only two points to its name and the dream of that one Saturday in July just about out of reach.

After making the final at Armidale, where it was never in the running after a poor start, Future Fund's next two attempts at Country Challenge events at Coonabarabran and Coonamble both failed to see him progress past the heats.

A similar scenario prevailed at Tamworth where high calibre opposition like Montana Belle competing meant the black dog missed a County Challenge final for the third successive occasion.

Next up was the Gunnedah leg which would prove to be the turning point. Sent out a firming 1/3 favourite, Future Fund recorded the fastest heat win and was heavily backed in the final.

Beginning quickly, Future Fund was always in control as fellow Showdown finalist tried hard but to no avail as the favourite won with something to spare on the line.

After an unsuccessful trip down the straight at Appin, Future Fund still needed a win to book entry into the Showdown final. The long trip to Broken Hill didn't phase , staying in Broken Hill between the heat and the final and it paid off with an impressive final win in cold conditions when a well backed favourite.

One greyhound that won't enjoy the presence of Future Fund is Montana Belle who was twice beaten by him at Broken Hill. Winning form is good form and with recent performances, Future Fund certainly goes into the Showdown full of confidence.
