Interstate greyhounds dominate 2023 Group 3 Carnival Chase betting headed by Hector Fawley

winning the 2023 Group 3 match race will start a short a favourite in the last Carnival Chase heat at Albion Park tonight despite having never seen the track.

Victorian and New South Wales trained greyhounds are set to have a significant presence in Thursday night's (tonights) four heats of the 2023 Group 3 Carnival Chase, which will race over the Albion Park middle-distance of 600 metres.

Victorian trained greyhounds will start favourite in three of the four heats tonight, while the remaining heat will see a New South Wales greyhound sent out a favourite at the expense of the locally trained dogs.

The 2023 Group 2 Flying Amy Classic heats will take centre stage at Albion Park tonight for seven extremely interesting heats with connections hoping to qualify for the $150,000 to-the-winner final next week.

But races nine to 12 inclusive will be the four heats of the 2023 Group 3 Carnival Chase over the middle distance (600m).

Twelve middle distance performers from Victoria and four New South Wales (NSW) greyhounds will make their way up to participate in the 2023 Group 3 Carnival Chase heats tonight.

First and second from tonight's four heats will qualify for the $60,000 to-the-winner Group 2 final next week.

In the first heart, last start 2023 Group 1 Sandown Cup placegetter Zipping Orlando, will make the transition back from Group 1 staying races to a middle distance, but that has stopped greyhound punters stepping up to support him, with greyhound bookmakers only offering +170 about his chances from box six for the John Finn-trained dog.

Victorian greyhound trainer Mark Delbridge has a contender in each of the four Carnival Chase heats, and will start Valor Bale (+700) from box seven in heat 1, but he will have his work cut out for him to qualify for the final.

Bookies have priced favourite Zipping Orlando, fellow Victorian Wheel And Go (Tim Britton, +170), and local hope Hara's River (+260) for Jemma Daley, all ahead of Delbridge's dog.

Race 10 on tonight's program is the second heat of the carnival chase, and All Spritzed Up has been sent from Victorian trainer to Churchable greyhound trainer for the Queensland Winter Carnival, making him a kennelmate to exciting middle distance staying type, Days Of Thunder.

All Spritzed up has been priced up a +130 favoured chance in greyhound odds to win the second chase heat, ahead of a number of runners, including Victorians Mepunga Mustang (+250) for Jeff Britton, and Jarick Bale for Mark Delbridge at +650.

NSW trainer John Finn will start as a +380 chance, while Adulate for Tony Zammit will be the best of the local hopes priced at +360.

Mark Delbridge will start the favourite Ailee Bale in the third heat of the Group 2 middle distance race at +180 with greyhound betting sites.

Ailee Bale is a last start 600m winner at in a best-of-night 34.40, and has won $112,805 in prizemoney from a 41 start career.

NSW trained Zipping Vanessa for John Finn is officially the first reserve for the same heat, but could give NSW their fifth Carnival Chase competitor if able to secure a start.

Should Zipping Vanessa gain a start, she will be considered a string chance in the race with greyhound betting apps assessing her as a +260 despite being first reserve.

2023 Group 3 The Lizrene third-placed Palawa King for NSW trainer Ray Smith is next in betting at +280, while Jackpot Joan is rated the next best for Victorian trainer at +400.

The best of the local hopes is Sunburst trained by who is priced a +450 chance in an open race.

The shortest priced favourite from the 2023 Group 3 Carnival Chase heats will start in the final heat with Hector Fawley priced just -133.33 for Victorian breeder, owner and trainer Lisa Cockerell.

Hector Fawley recorded his first group race win last start, winning the Group 3 The Racecallers Showdown match-race at Sandown over 595m, accounting for NSW greyhound Punter's Bandit.

Hector Fawley has also been placed in the Group 3 Easter Gift at Sandown over 515m, and made the final of the 2022 Group 3 SA Derby at .

Greyhound punters might be concerned to know that Hector Fawley will go in to tonight's Carnival Chase heat without having seen the Breakfast Creek circuit.

Lisa Cockerell, his trainer and co-owner, however, is not flustered by this lack of familiarisation, expressing unwavering confidence in her dog.

“He went to Adelaide for the Derby series at Angle Park and won without a look at the track,” said Lisa.

John Finn's Zipping Vanessa is again second favourite for the final heat at +320, but will have to sweat the final scratchings to gain a run as first reserve.

Mark Delbridge's last chance of his four strong team, Zoha Bale, is on the third line of betting at +400, while the best of the local hopes will start from box one with the Jedda Cutlack-trained Shaye priced at +500.
