Midnight Spritz claims prestigious Ladies Bracelet title
Midnight Spritz, trained by the powerful Andy and Jodie Lord kennel, clinched their first win in the prestigious 2024 Group 3 Ladies Bracelet final at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, May 4.
This time-honoured classic event for female greyhounds only, has dropped from Group 2 to Group 3 status in recent years, but it is still very much a targeted and much sought-after race to win.
On Saturday night, Midnight Spritz was sent to the boxes as the narrow second favourite for the race with greyhound bookmakers at +270, just behind the punter's elect Camilla Keeping, who was quoted at +240, with the aid of the box one draw.
But at the jump, Camilla Keeping's hopes were dashed when speedy flyer My Hepburn pounced on the lead and went to the rail.
Midnight Spritz, had begun well from box five and worked in to a clear second, chasing the leader through the first corner.
In a determined run, Midnight Spritz kept working away at the leader and collared My Hepburn by the home corner, before going on to win the $25,000 to-the-winner race in 29.59.
Camilla Keeping ran on well to finish second, 3.0 lengths from the winner, while My Hepburn had to be content with third, a further 0.5 lengths back.

The daughter of Tommy Shelby and Racing Boots has now had 21 starts for 10 wins and four placings.
Owned by Bailey Dickinson, the son of prolific greyhound breeder and owner Stuart Dickinson, Midnight Spritz continues the highly successful relationship between the Dickinson's and the Lord kennel that has lasted several decades.
The 30kg greyhound has had all but five of her career starts at Wentworth Park, where she has won nine races and run three placings, earning $71,200 for connections.
The talented black bitch has really taken to Wentworth Park and has a personal best winning time at the track of 29.42, with all wins breaking the 30-second barrier.
While the Group 3 Ladies Bracelet title was Midnight Spritz's first foray in to black-type racing, she seemingly has a bright future at Wentworth Park of the 520m journey, but the Lord kennel believe her future may be in middle distance and staying races.
“I'm hoping 600 or 700 metres might be her go,” said Andy Lord.
