Zipping Megatron claims second Wentworth Park feature in Bob Payne Sprint

Zipping Megatron
won his second Wentworth Park feature race taking out the 2024 Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint.

Zipping Megatron broke a string of three runner-up performances in top-class company by winning the 2024 Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, May 4.

The Hallinan family bred and owned greyhound, finished second in the 2024 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg behind Mackenna, after making the final by finishing second in the Golden Easter Egg Semi-Finals.

After drawing box one in Saturday night's Group 3 final, Zipping Megatron was sent to the boxes as the hot -153.85 favourite at greyhound betting sites, and he didn't disappoint punters, driving up along the rail to take the lead through the first corner.

The son of Superior Panama and Zipping Mitzy made every post a winner from that point, going on to win by 7.25 lengths in 29.55 over One Hot Bandit who finished second.

Overflow Beau battled on for third, 8.25 lengths from the winner.

Zipping Megatron won the 2024 Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint final at Wentworth Park in 29.55.

Zipping Megatron has now had 14 starts for nine wins and four seconds, with three of those seconds immediately prior to his Group 3 win.

The -trained greyhound has now won $165,460 in prizemoney.

The 36kg red brindle dog started his career with a rush, winning the 2023 Million Dollar Chase Maiden final in a flying 29.42 at just his second race start.

At the time, Magri was full of praise for his young sprinter and was looking forward to where his career would lead, saying, “This bloke is as good of a dog as I've ever trained.

“He's right up there with the best of them.

“He is an exciting prospect, and now I will take him through his grades at Wenty,” said Magri.

Zipping Megatron finished unplaced in the 2024 Group 2 .

Other than the Cup campaign, all his starts have been at Wentworth Park, where he is undefeated from box one in three starts.
