Beginning on equal terms with the field from box one, he was able to take control of the race as they went into the back section. Kicking clear, he raced away to win by 3 lengths in 27.93.
It was his first win at Casino from six tries, and trainer Kevin Ackling has this son of Benny’s Toll firing at the moment.
On a day when the inside boxes dominated, Yorklea Valley defied that trend by being the only short course winner to come from the outside. He loves it out wide, and he came out running to race to the front at the first bend. It was a “one act affair” from that point with the Tony Marras trained sprinter going on to score by 5 1/2 lengths. It was his third win from four starts from box eight, and he ran the best time over the sprint journey – 23.01.
Solid wins to litter sisters She Rose High and Hi Sandy gave trainer Bob Thompson training honours on the day. She Rose High raced to the front going down the back of the track and held on to win by 3/4 length in 27.90, whilst Hi Sandy jumped straight to the lead, and the result was never in doubt as she saluted by 6 1/2 lengths. Her time of 27.72 was the best of the day over the 484 metres.
Newcomer to the area, Skill To Thrill scored at her first look at the track for Shane Robinson in the Charcoal Inn distance stake. The field looked an even bunch, and it was a packing field as they came past the 620 metre boxes with under 200 metres to go. Skill To Thrill finally got some galloping room, and daughter of Hallucinate shot clear, going on to win by 3 1/4 lengths. The runner up Hewitt was held up in “traffic” and looked like he could have finished closer.
The coveted “red” box won the first three races with Jollly Wild leading throughout in 23.49 for Byron Miller; Perfect Fantasy winning by 4 3/4 lengths in 23.49 for Rob Andrews and Karanne Ace scoring in 23.63 for Pat Lavis.
The remaining event was taken out by Gambler’s Gold for Alstonville conditioner Noel Smith. He got to the front early in proceedings and won by 3 3/4 lengths clocking 23.48.
The Casino club will race again this Friday afternoon with the firts race at 12.30pm.
