Overflow Beau triumphs in 2024 Group 3 Brother Fox final at Dubbo

The Craig Chappelow-trained Overflow Beau claimed victory in the 2024 Group 3 Brother Fox Final at on Saturday night, May 18.

It was Overflow Beau's first group win since winning the 2023 Group 3 Rising Stars final over 520 metres at in November last year.

The celebrations for Chappelow were doubled when his other runner in the $50,000 to-the-winner final, Embrace, finished second to the kennelmate.

Chappelow was overjoyed with the feature race result, saying that when Overflow Beau jumped well, he knew he was going to be in the finish.

“I normally don't cheer too much during the race, but as soon as he jumped, I started cheering.

“I knew he was going to be able to get across, which is all we hoped for all week, and once he led, I was really confident,” explained Chappelow.

Greyhound punters and greyhound betting sites sent the Jack Smith-trained Bella Una to the boxes as the +120 favourite from box one.

As the shutters closed, Overflow Beau was on the fourth line of betting paying +600 with greyhound bookmakers, while greyhound betting apps had kenelmate Embrace on the sixth line of betting paying +1000.

At box-rise, Overflow Beau speared across to the rail to lead by one length at the winning post the first time, with kennelmate Embrace immediately following him over to trail in a clear second.

Down the back straight, Embrace challenged for the lead before Overflow Beau cleared away in the run to the line to win by 3.0 lengths over Embrace in 29.46.

Ferness trailed the two leaders for a full lap but couldn't find a clear path to challenge the winner, finishing third, a further 1.25 lengths behind Embrace.

Overflow Beau led home a kennel 1-2 for trainer Craig Chappelow in the 2024 Group 3 Brother Fox at Dubbo.

Overflow Beau took his career record to 12 wins and 10 placings from 29 starts, earning $158,945 in prizemoney.

The son of Fernando Bale and Sweet City Woman, who is owned by , adds the feature Dubbo race title to his Albion Park Group 3 win.

The 34-kg blue dog finished third behind Zipping Megatron in the recent Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint, finished unplaced in the 2024 Group 2 Queensland Derby at Albion Park in January, and finished second in the 2024 Temora Cup final in March.

Kennelmate Embrace, the 2022 winner at , added yet another placing to her imposing 82-start career, which has resulted in 19 wins and 27 placings.

Owned by Chappelow, the daughter of Turanza Bale and Twisted Love, has now won $233,835 in career earnings.

Chappelow was thrilled with the result, saying, “I'm just so proud of both of them.

“I've chased a few of these races over the years.

“And to see Beau and Embrace finish one-two is a dream come true.”
