Sole Queenslander in Group 2 Flying Amy Classic final smashed in betting
Confirming all eyes are firmly on the Queensland Winter Carnival, the Thursday night main feature race, the $150,000 to-the-winner Group 2 Flying Amy Classic has seen parochial Queenslanders get right behind their sole finalist, smashing it in betting in to less than half its odds.
A similar greyhound betting odds pattern was also seen on Thursday night's co-feature Group 3 Dashing Corsair final, with the most inexperienced local greyhound in the race being plunged in betting.
The 2023 Group 2 Flying Amy Classic heats were dominated by the South Australian (SA) Rasmussen family, who trained the three littermates, headed by Victa Damian, to reach the rich final.
Undeniably the best of the ‘Victa' trio, Victa Damian, has been as short as +130 with greyhound betting sites.
Remarkably, the same press outlets revealed that Queensland legendary greyhound trainer Tony Brett was training Aston Zulu and the other Jason Thompson finalist Umberto, and that still had no effect on the greyhound odds of Aston Zulu.
In fact, Umberto has drifted from +340 out to +380 since the news, which is amazing considering Brett's undeniable talent with the collar and lead.
The big move in greyhound betting has been for the Greg Stella-trained Magistrate, the only locally trained greyhound in the Group 2 final.
Magistrate, who was the fastest qualifier for the Flying Amy Classic final winning in 29.82, has won four from six starts over the Albion Park track and 520m distance, and has won 15 races from 26 starts.
Magistrate will be the lone Queensland greyhound finalist defending state pride against the three SA ‘Victa' littermates, three Victorian greyhounds, and Zipping Remus from NSW.
Greyhound bettors have stepped in to the greyhound accordingly, backing Greg Stella's charge in from as much as +1900 to win, in to +750 with greyhound racing apps.
Magistrate has won eight of 15 race starts from the outside greyhound boxes.
