Who Will Be The SA Sprint Representative At Nationals?

At 9:11pm on Thursday night at Angle Park, South Australian greyhound participants will find out who will represent them at the later this month.

Kalden Gambino (4) fastest for the South Australian final in 29.84.Trainers and Robyn Mackellar have each qualified two finalists for this race. Sire Mogambo also features heavily as he has three finalists in the race.

Here's a look at each of the runners.

Box 1 – Sidney's Shadow (Cameron Butcher)

The black bitch by Mogambo and Alana Blues (Collision – African Beauty) won her second race on the trot taking out her heat last week. She virtually led all the way from box four and recorded 29.99. Her record from box one is impeccable with two wins from two starts. She has ran her best time of 29.56 from this box and has a fast first section of 4.37.

Box 2 – Wild Soul (Kim Johnstone)

Wild Soul ran third last week to Kalden Gambino, beaten just two and a half lengths from box four. The black dog by Mogambo and Velocity Thunder (Flying Penske – Subjective Lee) didn't get away the best last week and could only muster 4.62 to the first mark. The better draw should help him but he had come into the race last week off the back of two wins over 600 metres so his early pace may have been dashed a little.

Box 3 – Set The Scene (Laurence Cahalan)

Set The Scene put in a strong performance last week to go down to Kalden Gambino by just one and three quarter lengths. Starting from box five, the Bartrim Bale and Coulta Gold (Bombastic Shiraz – Coulta Tess) dog was checked early but managed to find his way into second and qualify for the final. He has a best time of 29.66, which came from box eight back in February this year. It looks like he does his best work from a wide draw.

Box 4 – Kalden Gambino (Troy Murray)

Kalden Gambino gave nothing else a chance last week when he stepped in a hurry from box eight and won by one and three quarter lengths in 29.84. He broke seventeen seconds down the back and overall, was very impressive. However, the box draw hasn't been kind to the and Abbadale Affair ( Cool – Sprinkles Of Gold) dog so he will need to show some of that early zip to overcome it.

Box 5 – Regal Looper (Cameron Butcher)

After overcoming a series of checks from box four, Regal Looper managed to finish one and a half lengths behind Cairnlea Layla last week. Regal Looper stopped the clock at a moderate 30.20 but he is capable of running 29.70. The fawn dog by Where's Pedro and Little Looper (Primo Uno – Koyuga Proof) is a little risky at box rise so he will be afforded no mistakes from the squeeze draw.

Box 6 – Farmeroo (Robyn Mackellar)

The and Emerley Bale (Big Daddy Cool – Eudunda Eudunda) dog had this draw last week when finishing three lengths second behind Sidney's Shadow. From 10 wins at the track Farmeroo has gone a best of 29.78 and has a best first split of 4.45. He has to be near the lead to win this.

Box 7 – Sporting Tears (Steve Meimetis)

Sporting Tears has had five attempts from box seven and has won just once so the and (Kiowa Sweet Trey – Tears) dog looks to have a big task ahead of him. He ran third behind Cairnlea Layla last week to just scrape into the final.

Box 8 – Cairnlea Layla (Robyn Mackellar)

Cairnlea Layla made it six in a row last week and if winning form is good form, she looks one of the main chances to win this race. Her best is 29.42 but she could only manage 30.11 last week so the Mogambo and Della Bale (Collision – ) bitch will have to improve on last week's effort to keep the winning streak up. She has won two races from box eight has won nine from 14 at the track.

Punishment (9) and Galilee Spirit (10) are the two reserves. Punishment finished third from box two last week behind Sidney's Shadow. His form at was good before this series. He is still a youngster and still learning so he may find this a little tough if he gets a start. Galilee Spirit was fourth to Kalden Gambino. His recent form has been a little ordinary so he will struggle if he gets a start in the final.
