BLACK Hole Sun was able to overcome a slow beginning to reign supreme in Saturday night’s Group 3 Ambrosoli (520m) at Wentworth Park.
Stepping from box two, Black Hole Sun was second last at the winning post on the first occasion, but was able to find a nice position on the fence, railing through to take the lead around the first turn after the leaders struck trouble.
Circling into second position was WA superstar Astrozone (box four) down the back straight, which set off after the leader ahead of Shima Song (box five) back in third.
Swinging for home it was still Black Hole Sun, but his rivals were closing quickly as Astrozone switched back to the inside and Shima Song began storming down the centre of the track.
However, the son of Cosmic Rumble and Chasing Diana refused to give in, kicking on strongly to the line to score by half-a-length over Astrozone in 30.11.
Trained by John Little, Black Hole Sun has now won nine of his 27 starts, with Saturday’s victory taking his earnings to just above $61,000.
