Behind Bars 2008 Canberra Greyhound Of The Year

In a night of celebrations, and good crowd joined the festivities as formally congratulated the 2008 Greyhound and Trainer of the Year.

Cheryl Pearson and family were trackside to receive acknowledgement for their greyhound Behind Bars taking out the leading greyhound honors, a tribute to her late husband and much loved club member Danny.

While local trainer Jimmy Coleman was congratulated for his training efforts of 08, taking the award thanks to some quality wins by the likes of Black Destiny, Taliesin Blue, Cyclone Gracie and Cyclone Lorian.

In the spirit of celebrating significant achievements, the recognition continued when took out his first feature event, with first reserve High Fees claiming the Maiden Final.

Morgan taking the time and opportunity to thank those who had assisted him in getting started and staying in the greyhound game.

Receiving a run from box seven, the black dog broke through to claim the $1,500 winners purse by a head over Walkabout Jill another head to Roll On By.

Having missed out on last weeks run of doubles, Bruce Peck made up for it this week, taking out race 2 with the new greyhound to the kennel, , who made it two wins on the trot in another quality 197.97 win, while Cyclone Zip broke it's maiden taking out race 3 in 18.20.

Glenn Peters' Janoka's Puzzle and Ian McFarlane's Berri Kerri also getting in on bowling over their maiden, both greyhounds leading all the way.

Slotting into the 440m 3/4th grade had to go further than his weekly 310metre to take home the money, holding on as they came to the line ahead of and Clancy's Flow.

Having started at short odds the last two weeks, it was no different Sunday for , only this week the Red Brindle Bitch was able to claim the chocolates over and in best of the night 30.82

John Thorpes' , returning to Canberra, managed to return to the winners circle taking out the second of the fifth grade 530 metre events ahead of Brencole Bale and Carley Cougar in 30.86.

The final two events going to Buck's Bunny and Bradman's Willow, both greyhound stepping well and leading all the way in 25.67 and 25.78 respectively.

A return to SKY this weekend, with Kilcoyne Kennels 5th Grade 440m heats and 3/4th grade 310m heats. Hope to see you again soon.
