Wentworth Park greyhound tips & racing preview | Saturday, 20/1

Wentworth Park betting tips

A sensational night of greyhound action at Wentworth Park this Saturday night. It is one of the greatest nights of greyhound racing on the calendar anywhere in the country, with the finals of the Group 1 National Derby, the Group 1 , and the Group 1 Paws of Thunder all to be decided. Throw in the stakes-levelled Collerson and the Group 2 Distance Plate, and it doesn’t get any better as a race night. The first race is due to start at 6.14pm local time. As always Australian Racing Greyhound will try to find you a winner or two.

Race 6 – National Futurity Final Top Tip

Aunt was the fastest qualifier for the Group 1 National Futurity Final, but the box draw has thrown a few spanners in the works. Gets Late Early absolutely flew early in the heats, and the early suggest she will lead. That will make things interesting for Ain’t Waiting and Hurricane Reign. If Hurricane Reign can hold the fence and push under Gets Late Early, then her chances will be significantly increased. Zipping Teresa may just get the gun run. She may be able to follow Gets Late Early across onto the fence and then use her superior power to race past her down the back straight. Aunt Virginia trialled here in 29.49 and then went 29.59 under race conditions, which suggests she may still have some room for improvement, but the big question is what run will she get from box five. Box five at Wentworth Park is not a terrible box if you can begin early, and on that basis, Aunt Virginia can begin better than Zipping Teresa and cross her, and the race will be at her mercy.

Race 7: National Derby Final Betting Preview

This year’s Group 1 National Derby has brought together a classy field, and Good Odds Cobber, who was the fastest qualifier by some margin (.3 of a sec), has come up with a terrible draw, getting box six. He is three from three from box six, however, and also three from three here at Wenty. If he runs anywhere near that time again in the final, he will win. History’s Coming is an up-and-comer who goes quick early but was still beaten four lengths by Good Odds Cobber. Eyes to Eyes also went quick early in the heats and was impressive, winning by over five lengths, but didn’t really smash the clock. He has been ultra-impressive recently, but getting across this field will be tough. Bianca’s Boy draws well in box two but often dwells and runs on in his races. The inside is a massive help, but I’m not sure he can give too many of these a head start, especially if they run around the 29.4 mark. could be the beneficiary of trouble if it occurs from the red box, but a win would surprise. could lead but would need a pile up behind him to get home.

Race 8: Paws Of Thunder Betting Preview

A cracking Group 1 Paws Of Thunder final awaits, and might just have enough early pace to hold the fence and lead, and that will be absolutely crucial in this final. He is an extremely talented Victorian who has four wins and a second from five box-one appearances and won his only race here last week. On last week’s sectional times, there could be five dogs within half a length of each other going into the first turn, and with the advantage of the inside box, it might just be enough. He has had two looks at Wenty now and went 29.52 in a trial and 29.51 in the heats, so you know roughly what time he will run in the final. Will that be good enough? If he is on the bunny, it should be.

Wentworth Park best bet of the day

Another talented Victorian who is just starting to find his real staying prowess. He had to work hard last week in the prelude, giving a big start and a convincing beating. He will be greatly aided by the scratching of Turn Back Time and should be able to follow Zipping Orlando across the face of the field again in this race. He will be better for the look at the track last week, and whilst he would be a short price off the inside box, it looks like this race maps for him to get across onto the fence in second place early, and from there only has the ability to run him down.

Best Value At Wentworth Park

This boy has a ton of early pace but rarely gets much luck in his races. Hopefully, in this race, the two dogs drawn immediately under him, who are both moderate beginners, will head straight to the fence. This should leave a bit of room early to zip down the middle of the track and contest the lead at the first turn. If he leads, he will be very difficult to beat. Four starts back, he took the lead from box seven and almost held off Bianca’s Boy, who has a big chance of winning the Derby later in the night. He should start close to double-figure odds in this race and really does represent excellent value with the leading bookmaker if he can nail the start.
