Winter Arrived At Longwood

This weekend we headed up the Hume Highway to for the 2014 Longwood Cup, sponsored once again by Burton’s Supa IGA – Euroa. Another big card of was on the agenda, especially as this was our first meeting to have the extra events taking our card from 10 races to 12. The weather forecast was spot on unfortunately. They said 100% chance of rain and rain it did for most of the day. Not a dry foot in the place on either man or beast! Despite this a good day was had by most.

Event 1 – 2014 Longwood Cup was an all Clyde final and was won by the Mannix/Caruana team’s Why Not Al, who despite the wet conditions, won all three of his courses in impressive fashion. Runner Up in this event was Gypsy Bling, also trained at Clyde by .

Event 2 – The Bert Clark Memorial was once again won by Dallas Massina’s Steele Beams. Dallas’ father Noel trained the first ever winner of the Bert Clark with a dog called Lewis Logie, so it was a nice touch for Noel’s daughter Dallas to win this event again. The runner up today was Baines Park for the Vicki Clark/David Dawson team, who made the journey from Crossover in South Gippsland.

Event 3 – The GRC All Aged was won by the Ray Whybrow trained Tiggerlong Moon, who managed a double today, also taking out the Shepparton GRC Mixed Maiden with Jake Rob. Runner up in the All Aged was Shifty Mifty again from the Dawson team.

Event 4 – This was the first of the Dog Maidens and this time Looming Large did exactly that, winning in brilliant fashion for Brad Burns over Rob Greig’s Flight Master.

Event 5 – The Burton’s IGA Bitches Maiden was won by Why Julie, who is trained at Shepparton by Anthony Costa and defeated Colin Burton’s Premier Mojo.

Event 6 – This event was, as I mentioned earlier, won by Jake Rob and the runner up in this event was Rival Josh trained by Yvonne Duncan at Tamleugh.

Event 7 Young Bitches Maiden was the first half of another double with Find Out Friday letting us all know Sunday that she was a winner. She is trained by our NCA President and today was too good for ’ In A Daze. Both bitches in this event are eligible for puppy events, so I get the feeling that both of these girls will be back to contest the Oaks being held here at Longwood in August.

Event 8 – The Paul Pollock Plumbing Oaks Trial was won by Black And Pretty, trained at Wattle Glen by Pat & Deb Burley. Runner Up was Magic Micron for Shane Dervish.

Event 9 – Another of the Westerlo’s team Blingle got the chocolates over Pat & Deb Burleys Pretty Crazy. Again both bitches coursed brilliantly considering the conditions.

Event 10 – The Shepparton GRC Derby Trial was won by Robyn Massina’s Skin To Bone, with the runner up being Midnight trained at Glenrowan by .

Event 11 – The Elite Greyhound Supplies Derby Trial brought up another winner for the Westerlo team when Bling My Day was first past the post over Russ McRae’s Agar.

Event 12 – Last but by no means least was the Jade Photography Derby Trial, which brought up the other half of our Presidents double with Wake Up Wednesday proving too strong today for Steve Colpoy’s Kallara Tipene.

Once again a big thank you to all of the volunteers at Longwood for making this meeting such a success as always. Also to the generous sponsors who give their support to not only Longwood but all of our clubs, we couldn’t without you!

Next meeting is at Melton for the Werribee Cup meeting on Sunday 15th June, 2014 and we hope to see you there.
