Rockhampton racing preview, greyhound tips & odds | Wednesday, 19/7/23
Rockhampton is set to host a 12 race program on Tuesday night from 6:58PM local time. The meeting is headlined by the “Rockhampton Maiden 1000” final which will kick off proceedings. Later in the evening, there’s two cracking best eight races over both the 407m and 510m where First Black Jack, Chips In and Ring Me will head respective events.
Best Bet: Slay Queen (Race 11)
Local leading trainer Ken Boody heads the penultimate event with Slay Queen who appears hard to beat. The two-year-old has had three starts since returning off a four month injury let off. She bumped into tough opposition in her first two runs, losing to Central Locking and Walk On Sunshine. Last week the daughter of Zulu Zeus returned to near her best form running fifth in 24.04. The pair that ran the quinella, Legendary Spyro and Panel Damage line up as the two favoured runners in an earlier race while Slay Queen finds a very winnable pathways event. The map appears good with Double Tara and Nanny’s Magic drawn outside looking to use the track and there isn’t a great deal of speed inside. With a clean getaway, Slay Queen can posy close and prove hard to hold out.
Best Bet
Race 11 – Slay Queen (6)
Form: 763785 | Career: 17: 4-0-3 | Trainer: Kenneth Boody
Next Best: Too Much Scotch (Race 2)
Darren Taylor is enjoying a purple patch of form of late and will be looking to take honours in the second event with his charge – Too Much Scotch. The son of Hooked On Scotch is in the infancy of his career only having had the seven starts winning one and placing in a further two. He returned off a two month injury let off last Wednesday when running fourth. Jumping cleanly from box two, he darted to the outside of the track and knocked up late in the piece. He will derive plenty of benefit from the run first up and draws well in box eight as he likes to use the track. He finds a field full of dogs that have had their fair share of chances and appears to be the most progressive of the pack.
Next Best
Race 2 – Too Much Scotch (8)
Form: 424214 | Career: 7: 1-2-0 | Trainer: Darren Taylor
Best Value: Obliging Hope (Race 3)
Obliging Hope appears well boxed to cause a minor upset in the third. The daughter of legend, Fernando Bale began her career under the care of Team Elson before being relocated to Ken Boody in Rockhampton in June 2023. The pair have struck up quite the combination in recent months with the likes of Atomic Warren, Who’s Travis and Comical Travis having gone through their respective grades. Obliging Hope has only faced the starter on two occasions in Rockhampton; however, appears progressive and one to follow. Unlucky on track debut, she followed this with an outstanding win on 4th July going 24.00 on a wet night. She steps straight up to the 510m which will suit and the favourite is drawn awkwardly in box five (City Way) with Kajal Rani outside him who has speed while he wants to push off. Obliging Hope can position herself closer in running and prove hard to run down at the better price.
Best Value
Race 3 – Obliging Hope (8)
