Incident Information

The Bunyip Ridge fire is burning in the Bunyip State Park and State Forest areas between Gembrook, Powelltown, Neerim Junction and Tonimbuk and is estimated to be approximately 25,000 hectares in size.

Back burning operations were undertaken in the Mt Beenak area overnight. As a result of this residents in and around Gembrook are likely to experience ongoing smoke across the area today. The fires do not pose a direct threat to residents.

People in the area will still need to remain vigilant, and should continue listening to ABC or local radio for updates on this fire

Core Advice
There may be increased amounts of smoke in the area from this fire.
Road use in the area may still be hazardous. Watch out for fallen trees, power lines, abandoned cars, wildlife and emergency services vehicles.
Residents should expect that many branches may fall from nearby trees in the next few days, and should be vigilant to protect themselves from injury.
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Additional Information

The public are asked not to unnecessarily travel into areas where back burning operations are continuing due to the number of emergency service vehicles operating there.Control lines continue to be established and secured on the Nth Eastern and Nth Western sectors of this fire.

Due to light East/South Easterly winds expected today residents in areas where back burning is occurring may experience smoke settling closer to the ground.

The Recovery Centre that has been running in Bunyip will now close on Saturday 14 February at 1:00pm.
